thanks for your comments, desiree and nickie!

i like the idea of looking at all of this in terms of layers. sometimes it's enough to look at just one layer. sometimes poking through a whole bunch of them is the thing to do. maybe one important thing is to KNOW that there are layers ...

Great post. Most things in life are far more complicated then we give them credit. Glad you pointed this out! Even in looking at myself I realize there are so many layers to who I am that as well as I know myself I shall never know myself completly. I think that perhaps it is that way for everyone. We do like to really understand things and label them and put them in their neat little boxes though, don't we? One of the many challenges to our human existence I suppose.

Thank you for this post. When I'm trying to adjust to some life situation, or change a bad habbit, knowing why is really a small part of how I learn to cope. Learning what actions can be causes of a flare is helpful, as is knowing how I can address a flare productively. Knowing that pain can be linked to depression really doesn't do me much good, unless I take that knowledge and start looking for ways to deal with those feelings. Thank you for articulating this so well; it's helpful to read things that clarify thoughts rolling around in my brain.
