Hi Suzanne,

The case I am making is that professionalism is incompatible with healing.

What I am attacking is a way of organising ourselves. I want to be clear that it is this way of organising that is the problem not individuals and their motivations.

Ways of organising can have unintended consequences – healers do not intend the negative consequences of professionalism in my experience.

Professionalism is not OK by me. It has negative consequences for both healers and their clients.

You play on so many words and like the way the sentence sounds so much it seems, perhaps just tired, but don’t understand at all your point, as it seems a circle… almost like a politition. Everything works and nothing works? or it works without or with the people? Whatever is okay and not ok? What are you feeling?

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I’d like to contribute – though probably not for a fortnight or so – I have a membership course starting in a couple of weeks. Also I don’t have a webcam or any of those techie things. So if I need those I couldn’t contribute I’m afraid.

I think in some ways mainstream medicine is becoming more wholistic and ‘alternative’ modalities are becoming more medicalised (which trend I view with horror).

I think the heroes of healing project is really valuable and I am delighted to be invited to participate. It will be after a fortnight or so though. Feel free to email me or find me on facebook.

Hi Isabella and Evan,
Good post and it addresses many of the issues we deal with in the American Health care system and their “professionalism”. When I was ill the word healing was never even used — the doctors just looked at what could control the pain — yet MANY healing modalities exist. A good call to attention for many and hopefully as more and more people become aware of the alternative approaches even mainstream medicine will incorporate them and get back to HEALING people. This is one of the reasons I started the Heroes of Healing Group writing project – to bring attention to the issue and to introduce people to many different modalities of healing.
