yikes, that must be very confusing. interestingly, it also illustrates extremely clearly, though, how different people have totally different takes on "truth".

what ways have you found to make it a little less frightening?

As someone new to her multiple self I fins this topic to be very confusing. Truth appears to be very different things to different parts of us. The factsets of ou long-term sadistic sexual abuse as a child even difficult to discern as different parts with different abilities and perceptual ages hold on to different events. It is frightening and highly disconcerting.

I think truth needs to include accuracy.

Is recognising the truth of Nietzsche's statement really due to his power? I don't think so. Foucauld (very much a lesser light than Nietzsche in my humble opinion) got into this tangle too - people started asking him if this meant that his work had no truth value. This lead to Michel modifying his position somewhat.

Accuracy includes the fitting game: does this formulation fit my observations. The fit may be temporary or enduring (hence the different valuations about protestations of love over the short or longer term).

One of the tricky aspects is arriving at truth with others (even about ourselves). I've had the embarrassing experience of people understanding some aspect of my behaviour better than I did at the time.

I think this is a fascinating and important discussion.
