So often, the key to making positive changes begins right now, in the present. Yes, we can think about how we'd like our life to be different in the future, set goals, etc., but ultimately the beginning of the future is the here and now.

Eckhart Tolle has been a source of encouragement to me lately as well. Finding peace and contentment in the present moment is a practice worth doing.

evan - thank you for a useful comment, as always.

i can't say that i can agree with every word eckhart tolle said but still find his words good to think about.

it looks like he's saying that since the "conditioned mind" is in charge, the person (whoever that is apart from the condition mind) has no choice.

another thing is that as far as the past goes, we DO have no choice, we only have a choice in terms of how we remember/think about it now.

it's a good idea to listen to the resentments. which is different from just letting them run rampant, isn't it?

i also find that sometimes, resentments are not only about things in the past but the hurt/unmet desire is also in the past. e.g. i remember once getting all worked up about being rejected for a job - a job that i didn't want anyway :)

Well, umm . . .

If they had no choice (and we don't either) where is the hope for change? Why bother recommending focusing on the present? To focus on the present insteand of the past is a choice, No?

I think that if we will listen to our resentment we will find an unment need/desire.
