You ask many of the same questions I do every Remembrance Day. I've been battling myself on whether to get a poppy to wear, but I'm sure I will--mostly so I can place it on the wreath at the memorial I always visit at 11:00 on 11-11.

I will take to heart that I am not the only one worried that it glorifies war. I will think of your grandfather, and the other medics who didn't want to fight but had to patch up (or put out of misery) the ones who did. I will think of all the people who get dragged into wars that they really wish weren't as necessary as they might seem to those who start them. I will think of the peace that results from the sacrifices made, and continue to hope that, someday, the peace can exist without more sacrifices.

And, as usual, I will read the words on the monument, and I will cry.

I hope that this year I am not alone at the monument. It seems our local veterans tend to go to a Vietnam monument (one with better parking, I suppose?) instead of the one that is there to honour those who fought in "The Great War"--a phrase which makes me sad because there is nothing great about wars except that they end.

The END of a war is what I commemorate today.
