You are right - interviews are kind of a mutual getting to know you thing. Many interviewers forget this and are sometimes shocked when their chosen candidate doesn't choose them.

Since majority cares about getting a job, the interview has become one sided. As applicant you're pleasing the employer more, more than them pleasing you. Not unless you're one of the best in your field.

Here's a tip to how to find the management style of a company. Before a job interview it will be wise to ask the HR department if you can have a look around the organization. During you visit you can ask existing staff question or the managment style, their morale. If a visit is not forthcoming you can always get chatty to anybody within the organization such as the receptionist or switchboard operator, face-to-face or over the phone.

really great tips, Isabella. I guess sometimes it's hard for us to think straight because all we can think of is - I need to get a job as soon as possible, any job that pays well. But that shouldn't be our priority, we should look for a job that would make us look forward to getting up in the morning and going to work, meeting our colleagues, and not being afraid to talk to the management without feeling overwhelmed by their status.

LOVE the 'management style' question. Particularly now, it's a job seeker's world. I get annoyed by people who complain a lot about their current work situation -- we can most likely find a place we find very comfortable and rewarding and inspiring (I know I have) -- and a lot of that starts by putting ourselves in the driver's seat: what kind of work environment do we want? and go out and find it.
