Hi Isabella, I was really interested to hear your reflections on overcoming an attack of fear of flying. Firstly, I'd like to say 'well done'! I passionately believe that we all have the inner resources we need to overcome problems - it's all about recognising what they might be and how we can use them most effectively.

I was particularly interested in your phenomenology of the fear - how you explored the'multi-layered' nature of your experience. I wonder if you have heard about EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which works in a similar way, helping you to uncover dfferent layers or associations (memories, images, fears) around a feeling-state, using phrases and tapping on acupressure points. I have found it enormously powerful in my work as a hypnotherapist with clients suffering from fear of flying.

If we can identify the underlying fear beneath the situation we are responding to (in most phobias it is usually, quite simply, fear of dying), and take apart the different aspects of the experience, we can usually free ourselves from it for good.
