Very well written article. I also commend you on writing it as this subject is not talked about enough. My husband suffers from chronic back pain from degenerative disc disorder and has had one surgery (spinal fusion with no pain relief so far) and going on two in a month or so. His surgeon's office writes him two Rx's a month to avoid "government red tape." We're talking a respectable establishment in a hospital! This means that if the Rx is written wrong in the directions at all he cannot fill his Rx. As did happen today so now he suffers for going on 4 days without his meds.

He cannot get a normal monthly prescription providing him the entire amount with normal monthly refills because of the poor regulations the US has enacted. People with real conditions and chronic pain should not be treated like criminals or addicts. I love the attention you have called to the myths, especially the first one. I hope to see more articles and hear more people talking about the neglect the United States is perpetrating on it's citizens with chronic pain. After all people who do not after suffer from chronic pain cannot relate to people who do. I live with my husband's everyday, but I cannot assume I have any idea how he feels. However, I can advocate the spread of the knowledge that will at least hopefully provide a better future.

Thanks again!

don't want to appear sanctimonioulsy modest here - but this is really nothing at all compared to the hard work that you and other people do day in day out bearing the pain. but thanks anyway :)

Thanks for drawing attention to this important issue. I know I speak for many others when I say thank you for your hard work and advocacy.

There are some excellent poins on using opioids.
