Thank you very much of the mention of my blog. I really appreciate all that you have to say & have found your site very useful. Thank you for your insight! I have to add, though, that the acronym is NOT very helpful for those who are struggling with Anorexia....as they need to be free of guilt. I did find the article helpful, though, in evaluating WHY we sometimes choose to eat. Most of us (including myself) eat for reasons OTHER than hunger. And, for many, this is a new concept. I have been on both sprectrums- anorexia and compulsive eating- and definitely, guilt doesn't help anything. God loves us no matter what our body size is, He just wants us to see ourselves the way He does. This is what I am coming to!

Thanks for the highlighting the entry on the growth of pro-ana groups on social networking sites like Facebook. The Center for Eating Disorders, home to Dr. Crawford, who is interviewed in the Newsweek article, just wrote a blog entry about this growing problem. To read about what CED thinks about this issue or to view the link to the Newsweek article: http://eatingdisorder.org/blog/2008/11/25/newsweek-highlights-the-dangers-of-pro-anorexia-groups-on-social-networking-sites/

I completely disagree with what I know of Elyse Fitzpatrick and other fundamentalist Christian approachs and I am a Christian. Whether it is a sin or not should not be the focus. I just creates more guilt and shame; thus, making it harder for one to recover. Guilt and shame are not lasting motivators for change and does not really address the issue. It addresses the symptom, but not the core issues that one needs to work through if one is to overcome an eating disorder. However, the acronym approach is good for addressing the cognitive-behavioral parts of an eating disorder.

For me, I know that my eating disorder is about my mother, but I really don't want to deal with either issue. I am just as defensive and private with my eating disorder as I am with my real issues with my mother. I am terrified of dealing with either one.
